Shame, the great silencer
that grows like cancer
and makes us hide and fly under the radar
or squirm and blush
if we think the world
glimpses our terrible secrets.
Yet, if we dare to be seen
and reconnect
we may feel vulnerable and exposed
but know there will be less dark and hidden places
for shame to hide
and know that even though it was never our fault
the price we pay for our shame
is a life half lived.
