I moved to Canberra after my partner died around 30 years ago.  My son needed to be close to his grandparents and Aunties, who ended up becoming his mother figures.

Before retiring, I owned a number of clothes shops. I’ve also been a trainee chef and a paparazzi. In my 40s I studied drug and alcohol counselling and psychology and worked in that field for a number of years.

I was born with a disability in my back and when I was 12, I was in a car accident that made it worse. That stopped me from being able to do sport. As I’ve got older, I’ve had to live with chronic pain. I’m now 75 years old.

I eat healthy and do yoga and Chinese exercises every morning.  That gives me the ability to still get out and about and do things. I just create stuff and continuously learn. I know all of the names of birds that visit these wetlands. I’ve also come to know the types of snakes and the water rat that live here.  This is my time out. I love it here.
